Is anyone headed to Ontario and looked into private health insurance to cover the 3 months you are not eligible for OHIP? I have a list of all the potential providers but getting quotes from all of them feels complicated....Wondering if anyone has done a comparison of various providers?

Useful reading and a list of provider here:

Personally, we went with GMS.ca. $450 for me (Male age 62) and $380 for my wife (age 49). For $150k cover with $1000 excess. We wanted something that would cover a major mishap and were quite happy to fork out for a walk-in visit if we needed one. As it turned out, my wife did - $120 for a consultation and $25 for anti-biotics - no big deal. Now on OHIP. You know of course that the 3 month gap insurance is not mandatory, purely down to you and your 'appetite for risk'.

Others have recommended DUInsurance, but they wouldn't cover an old guy like me!

So, you still had to pay for the Dr's visit out of pocket? And basically the insurance was just to cover a major hospitalization? We have a newborn who will need a couple routine Dr's visits in the timeframe that we are not covered
