Hello, I’ve been struggling to find some answers to my particular situation and I was hoping maybe I could get a few pointers where to start. I’ve never done something like this online, hopefully someone can help.

My name is Greg and I’m 22 years old currently living in Israel. I first moved to Canada in 2003 when I was 8, with my mom, dad and little sister. My dad decided it was best to try and get a refugee status. Three years later we got denied for citizenship and where told to leave the Canada within 60 days. I was 11 at the time, and found this out through my dad who told me insted leaving Canada we were going to just simply going to continue living there, and we did for a nother 4 years till I got cought by police, my mom came to pick me from the police station and they got her to with my sister. My dad didnt live with us at the time so he was still living in Canada for another 3 years after we got deported. After 3 years my dad merried a Canadain citizen, but was sent back to israel as he was still there illegally. After my dads return to israel he continued to apply for ARC with spornsorship and added me to the file as i was living with him at the time. We both got denied entry into Canada(02.2013). Before we got to trying again, i stopped talking to my dad but I know he lives in Canada now with his wife. I now also have a criminal record here in israel. What are my chances to get a visa to Canada, id like to go on vacation there and visit my high school friends who im still in touch with. Where do i get started? Is it even possible for me to enter Canada again?

With your history, it's going to be an uphill battle to get a visitor visa. Also, even if you were deported as a minor, you will almost certainly have to obtain an ARC. Is your father now legally in Canada?

Wow, this is unfortunate. You have a daunting task ahead of you if you decide to try. All the best man.

The failed refugee claim, overstay and deportation will likely make it extremely difficult for you to return anytime soon. The criminal record is most likely a problem as well. Depending on how long ago it was, the nature of the charge and the sentence/penalty - it's possible you are currently inadmissible to Canada (meaning you are not permitted to enter).

Yeah i figure but its worth it, and thank you

You'll need either an ETA or TRV to enter Canada (depending on what kind of passport you hold). It's possible there may be no point applying. If you are inadmissible to Canada based on your criminal record, then refusal is guaranteed if you apply.

Thank you for your reply. I was released about 2 years ago, I’ve checked and my criminal record does not make inadmissible. Currently I am inadmissible, since i would have to apply to visit Canada in the first place after bieng deported. What is an “ETA” or “TRV” ?

I think you're likely mistaken about your criminal record and you are in fact inadmissible. If you were released 2 years ago that means you served a sentence? If so, that would certainly qualify the conviction as something that would make you inadmissible. You would need to apply for rehabilitation BEFORE you can apply for the ETA/TRV. However you cannot qualify for rehabilitation until five years have passed since the completion of your sentence. Since your sentence was complete 2 years ago - you still have 3 years to wait before you can apply for rehabilitation and even think of coming to Canada.

What was the crime you were convicted for? Even something as simple as a DUI (drinking and driving) makes you inadmissible to Canada.

TRV/ETA allows you to fly to Canada as a visitor. Whether you need an ETA or TRV depends on what passport you hold.

Yeah - that definitely makes you inadmissible. That's a pretty serious charge. You need to forget about coming to Canada for at least three years. It's going to be impossible until then. There's absolutely no point applying for anything now.

Information about rehabilitation:

You will also need an ARC since you were deported:

This tool will help you to determine whether you need an ETA or TRV (depends on what kind of Israeli passport you hold):

I greatly appreciate your time and the fact you helped me clarify my situation for me.
Didn’t expect to get answers this fast, thank you.
