Hey! I am looking for information re: sponsorinh parents. I was wondering if I am eligible to apply for 2018 if I got my PR in 2016 or do I have to wait 3 years? I do have proof of income and taxes for 3 years but 2 years were as post gea

You don't need to wait 3 years from becoming a PR.

You can qualify as long as you're a PR at time you submit the app. Income qualifying in previous 3 tax years, can be using income earned while living in Canada under work permit, or from a co-signer.

Thank you for the reply Rob! I am hoping you can answer another question. What documents do I need to fill the form to show interest for parent sponsorship. I found the list of documents needed for the actual application if I am invited to apply. Just can't seem to find the list of documents needed for the first step. Again, I really appreciate you taking the time to answer.

Wait until January 2018 for lottery forms and rules to be released.

Hi, @Rob_TO and @s_pisces, this info is really useful, thanks for creating this thread.

I become a PR since 2016, but they are requesting 3 years of tax proof. I am wondering if it is possible to provide tax proof from other country other than Canada? (country where I resided before I came to Canada)

No, you can't use income from before you came to Canada.

You don't qualify. You'll probably need to wait until sometime around 2020 or 2021 to qualify.

Previous years income must have been earned while living in Canada, and the only acceptable proof of income is Canadian tax returns.

post grad/phd income etc is not qualified unless you paid income tax for employment and it appears in line 150 of your tax return you meet the minimum for last 3 years

I do have income backed by tax returns for 3 years on a post grad work permit

Hi Rob,
Another question I have regarding this sponsorship process is do I have to maintain the minimum income requirement even after submitting the application and throughout the processing or is it just the past 3 years that they care about? I am planning on going back to school in the next 2 years and might not be able to maintain the minimum income. Thanks!

Yes you have to continuing maintaining LICO in later tax years. IRCC will usually do a final income check before approving the PR app to ensure you've met LICO in later years after submitting. If they see you + co-signers income dropped below LICO in any year, they will reject the app.

Also if your family size changes (i.e. if you have a baby), then your family size increases and you need to even meet a higher LICO in later tax years.

Hi

We have a family of 2 in 2017 and i am planning to file a PR application for parents. Also in 2018 we will be having a baby. So the minimum income requirement for the previous years i.e 2015,2016 and 2017 will be on the basis of 4 family members or 5 family members?

I will be thankful if you help me out with this..

Thanks

Covered in the post before yours.......initial family size is 4

It would depend on when the child is born and when the PR app is submitted. If the child is born BEFORE you submit the actual PR app, you would need to meet LICO for 5 people for all years. If the child is born AFTER you submit the app, you would only need to meet LICO for 5 people from 2018 onwards.

Hi everyone! I am wondering if my brother and I can separately sponsor my mom and dad or does it have it to be together since they are each other's dependents.

Also, can my brother and I both fill out the sponsorship interest form for our parents or is that considered a duplicate entry?
