He answered that query using a lawyer, but it took years to get approval after answering that query.

so total time would be 10 years in Canada including 4 years before applying! wow, that is long enough to make sure that he never severs his ties to Canada! I would definitely avoid this Windsor - Detroit commute at all costs even if I get an opportunity to do so in future. Instead it is better to work quietly for 3 or 4 years within Canada, and then pursue US if needed without any hassles.
You might want to check again. Most non-routine applications like these get finalized in 2-3 years ( check Citizenship forum on this website). Most probably your friend was talking about 6 years in total ( 3-4 years on PR + 2-3 years for Citizenship processing)

If not Nexus, would they stamp my passport every time i enter and exit. I will be entering USA once a week. Will stay in US for 3 days and then back to canada for the rest of the week. At least thats the plan

Another question regarding showing ties to Canada to apply for Citizenship after Canadian PR
Although, I would be working for Us employer, my primary residence would be in Canada . My family
(wife and kid) would also be in Canada all the time. I would be paying taxes in Canada (after getting reciprocal taxes evoked paid in USA),
will have Candian registered Cars etc. etc
So question is, Is it necessary only for Primary applicant to have strong Candian ties ?? In this case since dependents are in Canada all the time, doesn't that count ??

I'm not sure about taxis, but there is a bus that leaves Downtown Detroit to Windsor through the Tunnel. You can complete your landing process but chances are that the bus might leave you.
Or you could rent a car from Detroit.
Thanks. I don't have any clue about the area as we are traveling from different state. I am yet to book the hotel. I would most probably book one near airport. I would be getting down from the airport and be taking the rental car/taxi to the hotel, and do the landing next day. How far is the downtown from the airport? Also do rental companies allow cars to be driven in to Canada? and if going by bus, what is the stop that I need to get down for CBSA office? Is there a return bus in the same route?
And do you know if Uber crosses border?
Getting Downtown from the airport will probably take you about 25 minutes at off peak hours. There are plenty of hotels around the airport .The downtown area has plenty of hotels too and the tunnel is easily accessible from there. The bridge is not too far either.
I wouldn't use the bus for first time landing in my opinion. I believe you'll be directed to the CBSA offices once you pull up the window and they see that you're doing 1st landing. Below is website to the Detroit-Windsor bus.

I live and work in the Greater Detroit area, and I just tried to request Uber to take me to Windsor and apparently it doesn't work(unavailable). I don't think they have Uber in Canada. I visited Vancouver a few months ago and they didn't have Uber or any ride sharing services.
Getting a rental should be ok. I was gonna get one next time I cross over because they gave me grief about importing my car. I'll let you know for sure in a few weeks but I think it should be ok.
Thanks. Keep me posted if you know something on this. I am bit nervous about driving in Canada and hence I have preference for taxis. Let me see if I can get hold of some local taxi that can drop me at the border and drop us back in hotel/airport.

I got this as CBSA address in their website.
If that's the address you got on their website then I would use that. You would be using the bridge in that case. I would go at off peak times because the bride does tend to get busy.
I think you would be fine driving in Canada if you drive in the US. Just be mindful of the odometer and speed limits keeping in mind they use KM/hr and not miles/hr.

So I was able to travel to Windsor this week using a rental car. I rented from Enterprise and their website states that you can drive the car in US, its territories, and Canada. I confirmed this with the agent when picking up the car. I also checked my auto insurance and I was also covered in Canada so I declined the rental one. So I think you can drive a rental to Canada without issues.
Surprisingly, Uber works from Canada to US, and NOT the other way round. I checked it while over there and multiple rides were available to drop me home in Detroit.
thanks so much. I am planning to land this Friday. I will be flying from TX to DTW, and reaching Detroit airport at around 3 PM, and thinking of landing directly from airport. Weather seems to be fine till Saturday (no snow).
Will rent a car, use CBSA Canada address, and head for landing. Will use hotel airport on the way back. Planning to use AVR for reentry. Feeling bit nervous that everything should go well!
Would you suggest any other reliable address on the Canadian side that would make sure that I cross the right bridge? Anything else to keep in mind?
