I have been working with an 87 year-old man here in Quebec on a book that he did some research on and we have grown to become good friends and he offered me to start the process of getting a Permanent Residency/Citizenship even if it requires him adopting me. He is willing to do that. I am currently a first-year undergraduate student in Concordia University from India and this idea (if feasible) sounds quite lucrative to me as it will reduce my cost of study by a lot. But, I couldn't find any resources on how to go about it and if he and I are eligible to perform this feat. Any information on this topic would be immensely appreciated. I don't know much about the immigration process so this question might sound dumb and be under the wrong forum, but as I said any information helps.
Thanks in advance.

He cannot sponsor you. Even if he adopted you, he still couldn't sponsor you for PR.

If you wish to become a PR, you will have to apply for PR through one of Canada's economic immigration programs like Express Entry.

But I read somewhere that if you are a Canadian citizen and adopt someone they automatically become eligible for Canadian citizenship.

First off, adults (like someone in university) can't be adopted. And second, adoption is not a casual path one takes to gain immigration to Canada. It's a serious process done when a child's parents are deceased or incapable of providing the basic necessities of life for their child so they are forced to give them up for adoption.

As mentioned above, there is absolutely nothing your friend can do to help with your immigration process. You'll need to qualify for an existing economic immigration stream and apply entirely on your own.

I understand but am only considering this because my parents aren't able to cope with the expenses associated with my studies and living.

That is not a reason for adoption. To even attempt this would be a flat out fraudulent use of the adoption method simply for you to gain immigration to Canada. Any such app would be guaranteed to be rejected.

Look up "Adoption of Convenience"

You need to give up on this idea completely since it has zero chance of success.

Not trying to be harsh, but that is irrelevant. It would be seen as immigration of convienience and refused outright.

Guys, I am not trying to do this to get a permanent residence or citizenship, he wants to declare me as the heir to all of his belongings, mainly his research and artwork based on the book that he thinks might get misused.

He doesn't need to adopt you to leave you his belongings. If he wishes to do that, it's a fairly simple process to re-write a will.

He can leave it to you in his will. You were the one who mentioned school fees and it being lucrative for you.

Yeah that's what he told that if he adopts me I won't have to pay the high fee. It was like a side benefit which I wanted to learn about by posting it in the relevant forums. Anyway, sorry if I came off the wrong way.
