Urgent Proof of Funds Questions

Hey there,

I live in the US. I applied for Express Entry last month and got invited to apply for Permanent Residency some days later. I am presently trying to gather all my requirements. Now my questions are pertaining the Poof of Funds.

The required funds are quite high and being a student and working I am not the most financially boyant. My Canadian citizen brothers gifted me some money for me to add to my savings to complete my funds to a total of $10,500 which is some dollars more than the equivalent requirement in Canadian dollars.

I am of the understand that I must show that the funds were indeed a gift and will not be required to be paid back which my brothers and I will be drafting cover letters attesting to this and will get notarized. Please tell me if any other thing is required. My brother will also be drafting a letter informing that I have a family house there and he will be housing me and covering my feeding, personal and transportation expenses.

Secondly, I just have the required funds saved and do not have any extra funds for the medical exam which is almost $500 and the two fees to be paid with the Resident Permit application which are almost $1,000 in total, can I take these costs out of the required funds and write this information in a cover letter or this is not allowed? Meaning the money must not be touched and I may not use any part of it to cover any application expenses? The costs are really high to try to gather extra money for right now, as I only have 50 days more to submit my application.

Lastly, where am I to place the cover letters as there is just one upload for each requirement, I read somewhere that each cover letter should be the first page of the required document being uploaded. How true is this and if not what is the right thing to?

if by cover letter you mean like a table of contents, it's unnecessary. if you mean the letter of explanation, you can add one file in LOE or add each individual LOE as an extra page in the PDF. you'll have to merge your documents in one.
Costs of the application expense are less than 800 USD. In all cases you'll be paying that after you show proof of funds so it won't show on your statement. Remember that the pof is to make sure you can survive after you move and not end up homeless. In our case for example, we kept saving money for almost a year before starting the application for immigration. Also, I don't think the letter of your brother supporting you is of any use to cic to be honest. As he is not sponsoring you, he's not really required to prove he will support you. Who's to say you won't move there and get kicked out a week later for example, doesn't matter to them. They care about you being able to prove you can support yourself and the proof to that is the POF.

Yes, I do mean letter of explanation, and yes I mean merging the necessary letters of explanation to each document pdf that it relates to, think that should explain what I meant better.

And no, lol, my brother won’t and can’t kick me out, it’s our family house, we all actually own it. About the support letter, I usually see that even if an information isn’t required initially it does go a long way at helping sometimes.

Yes, I just realized my question was off there, lol, the appication fees are paid after submitting documents hence it won’t actually reflect, although how about the medical exam fees, as the result is required as one of the documents to be submitted hence I will pay for this before submitting my bank statement hence it will reflect in it?

2. Take your latest bank statement showing the outstanding balance which should exceed the minimum required fund. This amount should not be touched until your landing in Canada. You need to show the updated bank statement then.
3. Try to get a credit card and pay the medical and the application fees with that
4. Or borrow money from friends or relatives to pay for medical and application fees.
5. Repay the money back with interest after you grab a job in Canada.
6. Don't mess with POF. This is one of the most important variable in granting PR.

So I’m looking out on gift deeds online, I wanted to know if the (First) Agent must be a Lawyer?

It should be done from Canada based on the regulations there. Please ask your brother to find it out.

Oh no my Canadian brother who is presently working in the US in Georgia has sent me the money instead, how will he creat the gift deed, does he have to go to a court or something? Can’t we just create it online or something since I’m not with him right now?
