hey guys,

finally got email from Immigration....

bad news, they are not satisfied with proof provided with proof of dependent. they have requested to have DNA test done.

has anyone ever come across this? what do they mean they not satisfied with proof. My husbands name is on birth certificate and he is the child's legal Guardian (well unofficial since they didn't go to court) but the child has lived with him since 2yrs old he has registered him for school and cared for him and they didn't even ask for proof (we provided birth certificate and signed forms from the mother)

I'm so irritated I'm not busy to deal with all this BS this month. and to top it off DNA test has to be done by an approve Canadian center which i have to find on my own then contact them and provide center information to coordinate.. WTF I've never heard of this madness who the hell wants to take care of someone else child for the last 12yrs then bring them to Canada if you have doubt not your..

Hi Luda

I have heard of ppl having to get dna test results especially when they added the parent late to the birth certificate. Im surprised they didnt ask us to do it. Seems like they do random check.

Yes the mother signed and JP signed. the child has been living with his father since he was 2yrs old father registered him in school and even did his passport.

The mother didn't even register for Birth certificate. the father did that and he name is on birth Certificate.

This is a damn waste of time and waste of money. Its already an expensive process without this test and you have to now consider another $565??? Im upset and its not even me. KVO told you where to do the test right? I remember my husband and I were talking about it as we were wondering if KVO would recommend we do one for our son as my husband was applying for citizenship for our son (he was born in Jamaica). This was before we started the process and realized one wasn't needed. I called this place and im almost certain they told me 36,000 JMD. That's roughly 367 CAD. After speaking to KVO they told us it wasn't needed and I think the KVO agent told us they have designated centers they used if its required.

They gave a list of acceptable service providers who will send them the kit, KVO will set an appointment 2-3months from now they have to go in do testing it will be sent back to Canada to the lab and result will be sent to KVO once completed. Oh Joy that means about another 6 months to go.

hmm.. searching for the silver lining.. Um i get at least 2 more trips to Jamaica (Man I was hoping to take a break from Jamaica) Darn it I will also have to shovel my own snow this winter thanks a lot KVO...

In regards to yesterday, I sent them an email basically begging and pleading. The response I added below, IDK why but I remain really hopeful that I will actually be getting my hubby here for my birthday.

Is a DNA asked for all dependents coming from Jamaica to Canada? The children didn't do blood tests for their medicals. As well birth certificates we did not hand in yet. I'm trying to prepare myself I guess for this extra expenses.

i read not everyone gets asked for DNA. i contacted by MP and he is going to call KVO to find out whats going on why is DNA requested. since my husband son was registered at birth and he is listed has the child father. MP was very nice and puzzled as well so he advised me he will get notes and details for the request. also to find out if other documents can be used in our case since my husband is the primary caregiver also has been and we have no intention of leaving the child in Jamaica and we dont really want to delay the process any longer waiting on DNA test.

Congratulations Hipchick and Mrs. Grant on their approvals. I am heartbroken that you got this far only to have another road block. Sending big hugs while you wait.
