Hi all,
I would like to get a canadian number, but still keep my sim from europe without having two phones to carry.
It seems like dual sim phones are not available here and the only option is to buy one 'unlocked' and hope it works with the canadian carrier. Does anyone have experience with this?
thanks

I bought a dual sim in Singapore. Worked fine everywhere but Canada. I do know some of them will work with the networks here, but I'm not savvy enough to tell you which ones. My I-Phones have never given me a problem using them anywhere. I've bought them in Canada, the US and Asia and they all seem to work fine anywhere I use them. Not sure about the other major brands, but I do know that some of the models available in Asia, but not in North America are not compatible with all the networks (It really is hit and miss with those models).

You might or might not know that different providers in Canada may use different networks. For example my Lumia, should work with everything but Freedom mobile here. So try to test different SIM or simply check your phone IMEI and if it works with the network you want.
But these days phones are made in a rather universal way.

1. Staples (plus others) sells dual sim unlocked phones at pretty good prices. I have one, use a Canadian SIM and a Universal Sim for travelling.

I’d suggest you look at the phone’s specs before purchase, particularly the frequency band. Your goal is to make sure it’s frequency band falls within the range of your preferred provider in Canada and elsewhere. Also make sure it’s not locked to any network, but I doubt there’s locked dual sim phones.
