Hello all.

I have been suffering from schizophrenia since 2009 and have been diagnosed with the illness in 2015. It was misdiagnosed as depression while I was doing my engineering (2010 - 2014 batch). It was due to my mental illness that I had to quit engineering in the final year and I came home. But I was determined to study and hence applied for admission in BBA in 2014. The problem became bigger in 2015 and then I was admitted to a hospital in India. Since then I have been on medication and I have recovered fully.

Long story short I have a BBA degree now, passed out in 2017 but I have a 5 year education gap after 12th.

Will I be able to apply for higher studies in Canada? Will I be granted student visa?

My profile:

10th : 71% (2007)
12th : 65% (2009)
Engineering: Discontinued (2010 - 2014)
BBA : 62% (No backlogs)

Taking IELTS in October

I am 25 years of age now.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

It would depend on lots of things like your finances, your ties to your home country, your choice of degree. Your marks are quite low which could be a problem. If your goal is to become a PR you may be medically inadmissible due to your demands on the Canadian health care and social services systems. You may want to look into that before making any decisions.

Hello. Thank you for the reply.

As far as finances are concerned my family is doing fine. And the degree part, well I'd like to do a pg diploma course in finance. My doctor told me that I need to be on an injection a month for a couple of years from now.. that is the only medication I am on now.

Will getting a good ielts score help my case?

Yes a good ielts score will help but approval is based on the whole picture. Just warning you to look into whether other cases of schizophrenia have been approved for PR in the past if you are studying in Canada because you want to apply for Pr eventually.

Where can I look for those other cases of schizophrenia? Any idea?

You could look on this forum, google, check with a Canadian lawyer who deals with procedural fairness/medical inadmissibility. Guaranteed you will need to justify that you will not place excessive demand on the medical/social services if you apply for PR.
