I feel your reference to Asia may be very offensive to some people reading this and is therefore unnecessary.
It is not offensive because I say so. All I said is you can't verify certain Asian or African references in Canada, therefore you might be paying higher deposit rents - this was mentioned by someone as their personal experience in another thread. You most likely can verify references from the US, England or Australia. Neither of those countries is where I come from.

If the Canadian government says the minimum is sufficient, what qualifies you to say that it is not? Nevertheless, not everyone's experience will be the same. I choose to look at the positive reality which states that the standard of living in Canada is number 2 in the world, and that many people have immigrated successfully, as opposed to the negative side that you are focused on.

What qualifies me? I've been there, have you? The Canadian government simply assumes that some percentage of newcomers will end up as very well educated laborers and they are OK with that.

I was more amused than offended ;) Asia is anything but remote :D

The only reason I stopped myself from commenting is because some times it's best to ignore ignorant comments from people who are just looking to pick a fight :p
Thanks for the great advice. I will keep it in mind.

Are you saying IRCC should revamp the POF index?
Be honest, many of the posters here do not even have those survival level 12k in their hands. Check out the POF threads, many gift deed related questions. If someone has never been to Canada, if they engage their entire family to come up with 12k, their likelihood of success in Canada is probably going to be lower. 12k is nothing in Ontario, those who've been there or have friends there know what I am talking about.

I am not trying to discourage anyone, just read to many "Canada disappointed me" posts recently. And I believe coming to Canada with survival level money, regardless of what authorities say, is one of the reasons.

To all the people who might have been discouraged by a few posts on this thread:

Many of us are going to Canada to have a better quality of life. Are we scared of starting from the bottom if that's what it takes? I'd wager we're not. It takes substantial guts to leave everything you know behind and settle in an unknown place. It's not for the weak. We're strong and we don't need 100k+ to think of taking a major step like this. Keep at it, and never be discouraged by cowards who define people by their account balance before they've lived a fraction of their lives.

Good luck everyone!
Great post. Thank you. We are strong indeed. We will stop at nothing to secure a brighter future for our children and families at large.

I think he is referring to the same Asia which owns 70% of Central London, Empire state Building in Manhattan, Largest investment funds in the world, biggest investors such as China, highest literacy rate compared to other continents, masters of technology (japan) and some poor people like us who live in slums.

People from many region move to Canada for a better living, these people have surplus savings in their home countries which they don't mobilize immediately and when they see the impressive quality(sarcasm) of homes and their asking rents they feel bad about it.

Canada is no doubt a better place to live but when you compare quality with price then many people get disappointed.

As far as you are referring to the people working as laborers etc then buddy you need to get your facts right. People who have money and don't want to lose their savings then they are left with no options but to work on these roles.
And how those Asian investments are going to help you, if your landlord asks for a huge deposit as he/she finds you not a trusted person? Are you going to mention London and Manhattan?

Say it please.

Then I believe you are posting in the wrong thread. We are not interested in "Canada disappointed me." Instead, we are driven by the stories of the millions who have successfully immigrated to Canada.

Yeah guys, your ECAd degrees won't help you get a better job, but his six figure savings would. Amazing logic.
This is called comfort. Those with greater savings won't be desperate to find a job immediately. Besides, there are other factors, but to understand them you have to have sufficient savings first.

Oh, excuse me, as long as you VISITED Canada, then you must be an expert! We have a specialist here for immigrating to Canada, well why didn't you say so! Please tell us more what truths of your journies to Canada we missed in our poor life? Oh please your specialist you! It seems you know everything! Have you visited every province in Canada? How long were your visits, 6 months or a year long? Have you been doing any work there during your visit? Did you visit their schools, hospitals, did you receive your social number while you were visiting? Did you work as a manager or a waiter? Do yoy know how much is sales tax in each provice?? Do you know which jobs are mostly required there? I want to know since you VISITED Canada! It seems your knowledge is rich!
Richer than many posters here, and it was rich enough to know what Canada feels like. I am sure you know that too, you sound smart, you would never immigrate blindly.

This is absolutely the right thread as people are overly optimistic here. Remember that patting each other on the back won't increase your savings.

We know nothing about anybody else here, and you still feel confident enough to make assumptions about their conditions. You are talking to people who obviously don't feel comfortable with their current situation, since that's the point of this forum. What is bare minimum for you isn't even necessary for other people.

If people's parents and friends have given them money to satisfy a condition, maybe they can support them for a couple more months until they find a job that's good enough to sustain. We all start at different places in our life, and it's the same when we get to Canada. Blanket statements like yours only go far enough to show that you're not in touch with many people's conditions, the same people you're preaching your own half-researched opinions to.

Your concern for the rest of us is touching!

However, I'd like to point out that optimism and "patting each other on the back" has gotten us this far.

So if you don't mind, we'd like to go back to doing just that :p
