Extending Student Permit Outside of Canada?

I'm a resident of the Philippines and was issued a student visa but I was not aware that they only follow the expiration date of my passport.

My school was supposed to start this September but I decided to go for September 2018 instead, the current visa I have will expire in April 2018 and I recently renewed my passport, is there any way that I can apply for an extension for my new passport instead of going through the agony of waiting for another approval?

If you will go for Sep 2018 you will probably need a new student visa. Apply early.

You can't apply for an extension when you aren't actually studying. You will need to apply for a new study permit.
