Okay I am just going to break down myself and my wives situation. I came to Canada in 2014 on a two year iec visa. Myself and my wife got married in December 2016 just before my legal status in Canada had ended. I did not leave the country as I did not want to leave my wife and we were planning on applying for permanent residency. Now the time has come for us to apply and I have no idea which application we should submit wether it be an outland or inland application. I think we should submit an outland application that says I left the country back in December when I really didn't and my wife thinks that we should submit an outland application that says I have no status in Canada and that I didn't leave the country. I am wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and if they could help me? We are really stressed out about this :(

Either way you have no status. I wouldnt reccommend lying on an application either as this results in mistepresentation. They know when you came into canada and left. Your passport has stamps and all stamped pages are required by cic

If you were married in December 2016, why on earth did you wait this long to apply? You could have applied immediately, and if you'd applied inland, that would have given you implied status to remain as a visitor - legally.

Your application should DEFINITELY NOT say, falsely, that you left nine months ago. If you do that, you'll likely have your application refused for misrepresenting the facts, and you could be given a departure order and not allowed to come back for a year.

You probably want to talk to a lawyer.

Sure, go ahead and lie that you left Canada in December. Just don't look all confused with they slap you with a 5 year ban for misrepresentation and CBSA drags you out of the country....

Why didn't you apply to extend your status before it expired? Why didn't you apply for PR sooner?

Do not lie on your application. This is something that will be easy for CIC to figure out, and you will be banned for five years for misrepresentation.
People have gotten approved even when they were out of status.
