hello, i am in the process of collecting my documents while i wait for ITA. I asked my organisation for a work reference letter and although they didn't happily agree, they said they would check with my department head on the feasibility of getting one done. meanwhile they have asked me whom do i want to address the letter to -

initially i told them I am applying for higher education, so they can just put 'to whomsoever it may concern', but they refused saying it has to be specific.

now here's the tricky part.. I don't want to mention CiC Canada as I don't want anyone in my org to know I am applying for this process. so what else can I ask them to put in the recipient without revealing much details

anyone done anything similar?

I don't think IRCC really cares who the letter is addressed to...I work in HR for my organization and we always address all of our employee's employment reference letters for Canada, to the Canadian Embassy in Jamaica (regardless of the purpose of the letter). I know of team members who have recently received PR through Express Entry who would have used one of our letters with the Jamaican Canadian Embassy address, so I presume it's not an issue. (My letter has the Jamaican Canadian Embassy address as well; in fact, that's the address on ALL of my letters in my application).

Full disclosure though: we (i.e. my HR Department) can generally tell when the employment reference letter is for immigration purposes, versus, say a temporary resident (visitor's) visa or a student visa, because of the specificity of the letter - generally only permanent residency letters require us to provide the job duties and responsibilities... I don't know how well versed your HR Department is though, that they would be able to pick up on that...

Thank you :) I am guessing even my organisation speculates the reason why I asking for this letter. but to be honest , i don't want to confess to it upfront, atleast not at this early stage. because once grapevines start talking and my bosses understand I might be looking to quit soon, that wont work out well for me. so I just told them I am applying for higher education. but I get your point. let me see if I can address it to the embassy as well

thanks again!!

That's what I had done initially but my HR refused saying they will not issue generic letters. So I need to think of alternate addresses
I have exactly the same problem.. i don't want to reveal that i am going to apply for canada PR.. because they will not let issue me the letters thinking that i will resign soon .. i will given reason of higher studies for getting the experience letter

Hi i have total 6.5 work experiance

5 yrs[2010-2105] in first company.
and 1.10 yrs in my current company [2016-prsent]

i applied for EE for NOC 2171.

I got the required ref letter in proper format from my first company [ 5 yrs exp]

but from my current company [1.10 exp] i am unable to get bcoz hr told they wont give ref letter.

I have got ITA and need to submit dox.

So if i dont submit ref letter for second company will it still be accepted bcoz i already have 5 yrs exp from my first company?
from what i understand for work exp more than 3 yrs points is the same.
plz help me

Since you already got an ITA now it's about proving all the details on your EE . If you don't give proof of your current job, cic could possibly not be able to validate it and that raises suspicions. If your HR isn't giving you a letter, see if you can get any of your colleagues to write a reference letter. If nothing works, update your offer letter, pay stubs, for 16 etc and a loe. Also add the HR communication refusing to provide you the letter
