Hi,

I am going to submit my HnC application soon and I am on visitor visa in the last few years. I need to extend my visa soon. The question is I have been working (in the last few months) as an online freelancer for a US company and got paid with USD. In my HnC application I wanted to show that I began to support my self financially (I had to be able to support my self when I was in a situation where I could not leave Canada, hence applying for HnC) after months being supported by my friends here. I am wondering in my visitor visa extension if I stated that I had started working as a online freelancer for a non canadian company I would get in trouble? I have to state that I am able to support my self in my HnC application and I feel like I need to match it with my extension application. Please share your experience and thoughts?

Make sure the company you're working for has no Canadian customers / clients.

Hi Scylla,

Thank you for chipping in! How do I do that? All I know that the company is a US based company, and I am only in touch with the project managers.

You'll need to ask the company you're working for - there's no other way. You'll need to verify that none of the work you're doing is for the benefit of a Canadian customer or client (of the US based company you're working for). If you really can't verify that, I would avoid mentioning anything about it in your H&C application because there's a possibility you're working illegally.
