So my PGWP is unrenewable. A year agoI had the chance to get an NOC level B job as a supervisor to eventually get Expres Entry. Well, that place got shut down before I was officially even declared a supervisor. Fast forward to now and I am still doing a labor job and my PGWP expires in 17 days. My consultant says my only last choice for now is to get a temporary resident visa. Since I'm married to a non-national whose sponsorship to my country in the USA is not ready, I want to stay here with him. This is where I'm not sure what to do. One consultant said all I need to do to get a TRV since I HAVE A USA PASSPORT is to go to the border on the 17th of August when the permit expires and just apply right then and there for a TRV. But a call center officer told me I have to fill out An Application to Change or Extend my Stay or Remain in Canada as a TRV as soon as possible. I just really want to know which is the correct form of action.

Also, if 6 months pass and I want to stay here, do I just need to re-apply or do i go to the border again or am I not allowed to do that?

The call center agent is the most correct for your case: you will need to apply to change from worker to visitor status. "Status" is your actual stay in Canada.

(Edit: you can try going to the border, since you have a US passport, but what Jalex said below is correct.)

You can try.

Possible outcomes:

- You are given 6 extra months.
- You are given a shorter stay (weeks).
- You are not given any extra stay.
- You are refused for attempting to skip the extension process and trying to play it "smart".

Thank you so much for responding. In your opinion is 15 days enough time to send the application to stay and then be approved?

I'm not as familiar with this process, but I believe, when you send your application (you can send it now), you'll be under implied status, and that permits you to stay in Canada until the decision of your application is known.

Your consultants gave you horrible advice.

1. You should note that you are applying for extension as a visitor not a TRV.
