Hi,

I would appreciate your help on this matter as I have my work permit currently and have applied for PR on my own and have received a request to submit my passport.

Will I have to quit my existing job, handover the work permit or what is the process for this ? Can I continue working on PR and just inform my employers?

Thank you so much

You can continue working on PR.

Thanks for your reply.

Should I be informing my employer regarding this and will the contract have to be changed as it was earlier for 2 years or it is legal to continue working under PR now?

Do I have to hand over my work permit?

Why are you worrying over a temporary resident work permit now that you are a permanent resident?

You are no longer a temporary resident or Work permit holder. I assume the work permit becomes irrelevant interms of status with immigration. The contract with you employer is another and separate issue

All you need to do is update your employer with your new permanent SIN. Your status has nothing to do with your work contract.

I guess its the fact that now you are 'free' when previously you were bound its hard to get your head around.

As stated above update the New SIN. The employer will know you got your PR no need to account for it and worry over anything.

Just live your life and enjoy your well deserved Status.

Haha so true. Appreciate your input and help Lanina. You are amazing and you nailed it there.

Its just that I am on secondment currently where I am still officially the employee of the organization outside Canada but am working in Canada on an assignment contract.

The only thought in my head was once I get my PR, I will obviously have to negotiate a full term contract with my Canadian firm as I will have to be an employee of a Company in Canada to continue working on my PR OR it is fine to be working under PR with the same existing contract which considers be an employee for example (London firm).

Is my understanding correct?

I don't understand why you would think that being a PR means you need to be an employee of a company in Canada.

Maybe i interpreted it wrongly thank you so much I thought that my secondment contact was connected to my work permit and I was required to be an employee of a Canadian Company.

That clarifies it now i shall enjoy my new "freedom" :)
