So if you don't have expense for kindergarten and go with a smaller house or condo, you can easiy live with only 1 salary of around 4000 CAD monthly. Hope this helps!
Got two kids but both will be in secondary school.
I've honestly not looked at Calgary at all. I looked at Ontario and BC but decided that while BC looks amazing it's too far from Europe where most of my family live around and where I love travelling to.

Kindergarten fee's at $3000? That sounds insanely expensive. I'm glad to be over that.

See if u get Indian green chilli...and just split it...don't squash it or it'll burn...
and be cautious trying it out, cause I don't want to spoil a nice evening for u just in case it isn't for you...try with just one chilly for 60 ml & few ice cubes ,half lemon, just a hint of salt (optional),and top it with chilled water...still...
if the flavor isn't enough you may try with two chillies later on...and if you don't find it interesting drop it...--
my personal favorite is Smirnoff with ice cubes topped with cranberry / orange juice...but with cheaper vodka, the chilli thing works...:D
one chilli is just little finger size, bit longer....
Yeah we get those ones here, I can't recall what we call them now. I think it's Serano.. but either way they are very common.

Chili, Lemon, Salt and Vodka sounds amazing. I'm not a fan of sweet things so I'll leave the Cranberry or Orange out of this one.

Try cherry peppers or the Assamese Ghost Chilli or the Bhutanese Chilli. Mixing water in vodka (or rum and whiskey) isn't a good idea. It will taste diluted, will kill the taste for me. But, it is your drink and everyone has their own taste buds!!

Average Home price $500,000 ? depends upon what you consider as home.. Average price for a Condo ( apartment ) for 2 bedroom is 300,000 ,
Townhomes row of 5 houses with 3 bedrooms are $600,000 , semi-detached two houses side by side.. $750,000 , single houses starting from $900,000 and goods ones goes to 1.1 million plus.. ( = comparing 200,000 in US )

i lived in US mid-west 2 hrs away from Chicago.. average home price was $200,000 for a single detached with lots of space around.. with the prices in GTA , home buying is a dream for me.. i am renting 3 bedroom town home for $1800 , same house if i buy i have to pay mortgage and condo fees & insurance of about $2800. i am finding cost of living is 30% more than US.
We are moving with middle school aged son. planning to rent a home in good neighborhoods. which are the areas to look at in mississauga and oakville.

Pre-Assessed..
Yes
It really is :D people are predicting all kinds of things, higher CRS - OK, posssible.. but it doesnt mean anything.. if it has to be higher, let it.. and maybe everyone will be surprised with low points tomorrow.. point is, in the next 3 months they have to fill the quota for 2017. right? Because from October 2017 they begin to fill for 2018. I think. So they have to have big draws again and it will come to 400 for sure, dont worry.
Yep, I think so too, till October they need to fill in their qouta!

I avoid the spirits, they are far too easy to overdo it on :)

I'm meant to be going to Thailand in October if all goes according to plan, heard great things about the place.
I've had Chang beer before, definitely palatable so looking forward to that.
The islands are great!! And, inexpensive too!! Have fun.

We all have the same worry! ;) It depends a lot where are you going to to live in Canada, which province! I can tell you from my perspective (accountat here, experienced, 10 years in the job, currently working as Chief Accountant). We are planning to settle in Calgary, Alberta, I have been researching about cost of living a lot, since I have 2 small kids and need them to enroll in kindergarten also ehich is huge amount in monthly budget. Also we like to eat out a lot, go have fun in the city a lot, which means spending money on coffee, cakes, small bites, baloons for kids and etc, also we like to travel a lot and stay in nice hotels. For nice living, when I say nice, I mean comfortable, we need (household of 4, where kindergarten fees are around 3000 CAD monthly) including rent for house with backyard and leasing for 2 cars, with utilities, gas and shopping also, 9000 CAD monthly. This is 2 salaries for around 4500 nett a month, which is likely to find, a bit less in the begging, then we will need to be careful about spending but after year or 2 we can go back to our life style. So if you don't have expense for kindergarten and go with a smaller house or condo, you can easiy live with only 1 salary of around 4000 CAD monthly. Hope this helps!

Public education is free in Alberta. I live in Calgary downtown. There are a lot of public schools with a very high rating. A little difficult to get into but if you are in the community you will have a priority. Refer this link.

best is to buy a fishing boat for 14,000 and cover it up.. and then enjoy fishing, beer.. :)
I have a friend who was mentioning about his friend who stays in a boat.. he docks it at any place he wants to move... the fee to dock is about $500 per month.. indeed this is a wonderful idea if you want to be mobile..
