Open Work Permit to Visitor

Hi guys

I'm 7 weeks away from my 2-year OWP expiring and I intend to attempt to stay in Canada for a few more months after this date to travel around Canada and sight-see after 2 years of working non-stop.

Does anyone have any information as to what is required to change my visa to a temporary visitor?
I was told I need to leave Canada and re-enter as a visitor, and it's at the discretion of the border official as to how long they will give me on that visa; would it help to have proof of travel within Canada to demonstrate I do not intend to work illegally if they let me back in? Or perhaps an outgoing flight for a future date? I'd like to get 4-6 months visa to give myself plenty of time but not sure how they decide. I have sufficient money in the bank to prove I can support myself.

And finally, I read on CIC website that I need to apply online 30 days before my work permit expires, is this true? I'm getting conflicting info so would love some clear answers from you wonderfully helpful humans!

You don't need to leave Canada. Apply online to change your status to visitor. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend/visa.asp

Did you apply for the conversion to visitor status? I am in the same boat. My PGWP is expiring in 2 months and I am trying to find out options to stay here in Quebec after that. I am thinking to apply to change the status to visitor to get another 6 months but I am not sure how it works. Thanks for your help!

Not sure what info you are asking for. You just apply to change your status to visitor.

That's what I was looking for. I am going to apply for change of status next month, 30 days before the expiry of work permit. I am planning to ask for 6 months visitor status after the expiry of work permit. Do you think that is not too long for a visitor status? Thanks!

Provided you have sufficient proof of funds, it should be fine.
