Hi

I am applying for Canada PR from India. I have done my Bcom from Delhi university correpondance. Altough I am now a banker with more than 10 years of work ex at a decent managerial level, my wife has better education on papers and she also has 8 years of banking experience. she has done her graduation from Garhwal university and PGDM from Amity University.

i am getting mixed suggestions from Immigration consultants. One said since your wife's education qualification is stronger she should be primary applicant and only her ECA(through WES) is required not mine. Other consultant told me you get the ECA done for both of us which may add points. ECA through WES is Rs. 20,000/- per applicant, please advice if my ECA is required at all or only my wife's ECA will be enough to apply.

However we both will definitely give IELTS

If you are claiming points for education then ECA is required. The cost is CAD 233 if you choose standard delivery.

It doesnt matter what u have studied, without ECA, you cannot claim points. IELTS is compulsory for both. ECA is compulsory only for Principal applicant. However most people do both principal and spouse ECA since that gives you more points. End of the day, the idea is to score as many as points as you can. Check the CRS Calculator on the CIC website to see your points with single ECA and double ECA.

It depends on how much points you are scoring. Is it around 450+? If yes, no need for your ECA. Is it missing the 450 mark by 5-10 points, than you should go for ECA. Is it below 400? Then you need good score in IELTS exam.

You should go thru the following topics in the forum for all your doubts:
