Certified copies of originals?

Hello everybody

I have a doubt about providing translated documents. The following is written on CIC:

If a supporting document is in a language other than English or French, the applicant must provide IRCC with:

- the English or French translation; and
- an affidavit from the person who completed the translations; and
- a certified photocopy of the original document.

The last point is confusing me. Do I really need to have a certified copy of the originals?? Before I always read you just need to provide a simple copy of the original. And if yes, that is only required for documents which need to be translated? What about originals which already are in English?

I find thi confusing too. It seems to make sense for paper applications where all immigration is getting is a copy of the document. Now that we are alreaxy scanning the originals, it does not make much sense. I woul love to hear from people who already have their PRs.

Hi,

I obtained my educational credentials and other documents in the Netherlands. Institutions are usually willing to help if you explain your situation.

I would do both:

1 ) have original copies (even if they are in foreign language) AND translated copies signed by University or other institution.
2 ) translate the originals, signed by translator including a declaration of the translator.

It is a lot of work, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

Yes exactly! I think so too! Since you have to submit everything electronically it does not make much sense. Would I need to make a certified copy of the original and then scan that for submission??

And which original are they referring to? The translated document in original or the original in foreign language (like the really original)?

I had reference letters in Dutch. I contacted my previous employers and asked them to write me one in English. Two of them asked me to help them do this, which I did. They then signed it and printed if off on company letterhead. This way, you don't need to get it translated. It is also a nice way to reconnect

But in my case the employer could not give it to me in English or French. So I had to have it translated. So what is now the procedure?? Certified copy of the original translated doc or a certified copy of the original reference letter in foreign language. Take out a copy of original document you got translated. Get it certified by same person who certifies translated docs. this means that the person who certifies, has confirmed that the original and translated docs have same details. upload them.

or else how would they know the translated documents are the translations of the original you sent?

A certified copy of the original refers to your original doc that you submit an English/French translation.
It would be the document you have in whatever language, a certified copy of this original.
