Please be patient. We are all in the same boat, and I truly understand how painful and exhausting this waiting can be.


I applied in March 2023, and since receiving my pre-arrival letter in May 2024, absolutely nothing has happened. Even my work permit renewal has been stuck since January 2026. I have been waiting for almost a year just to renew a permit that allows me to continue working and supporting myself.


Now, if nothing changes within the next two months, I may lose my job. After years of waiting patiently and following every rule, I honestly feel like the system is pushing me toward losing my livelihood and possibly becoming homeless.


It is heartbreaking to live with this uncertainty every single day. All we can do is stay strong, support each other, and hope that this nightmare finally comes to an end.

Don’t worry. If you applied to extend your work permit before your current one expired, your current work permit remains valid until you receive the new one.

They asked me for information about my military service, so I submitted a letter explaining that I had never served in the military. According to my GCMS notes, after reviewing the letter, the agent also noted that they believed I had not completed any military service.

Despite that, my application was still moved into non-routine processing. There is nothing in the GCMS notes confirming that this happened because of the military service issue, and honestly, I cannot find any clear reason for it.

At this point, the only explanation I can think of is that I have been extremely unlucky with the process. I came to Canada in February 2021, and I still do not have my PR.

Don't lose faith; I came to Canada in 2018 and still don't have. Everything will be fine, and you'll have your PR soon.The problem is that the immigration office works slowly and requires external verifications, and it is all bureaucracy. I hope you have a little more patience, even though you're tired of waiting. There are things in life that we cannot resolve ourselves.

I wouldn’t assume that the military-service question, it may additional verification, background checks, security or admissibility processing. If I’m not mistaken.

A friend of mine also had their work permit approved after seven months. How is it possible for a work permit application for a "protected person" to remain stuck for that long?

You are essentially stripping someone who has the right to live and work in Canada of their right to work. There is no excuse for this; it is a completely wrong—and, in my opinion, unlawful—practice.

Even I applied to extend my work permit before it expired. The very next day, I received an email confirming that my work authorization was extended for one year while my application was being processed, so I showed that email to my employer along with my previous work permit.

Then, a few days later, I noticed in my GCKey account that my work permit application had been withdrawn because I had become a permanent resident. Since I had already received my eCoPR, I no longer needed the work permit.

Yes, they requested it on June 29, which was the second time. I believe the first time was back in 2024.
I contacted my MP on August 10 and applied for GCMS notes at the beginning of September. After receiving my GCMS notes by email, I finally got an update today
