I’m getting ready to submit my Canadian citizenship application and just realized that I lost my old passport. I don’t have enough time to get a replacement before submitting, and even if I get a new passport, it obviously won’t contain the old travel stamps.
At the moment, I only have a photo of the bio page of my old passport. During the past 5 years, the only travel record in that passport was my departure from Canada / return to China in October 2024. Other than that, the passport was basically blank, and I had no other trips during the eligibility period.
I saw in the citizenship instructions that if you do not have a passport or travel document covering the eligibility period, you can explain the reason in Question 14.
Has anyone applied in a similar situation? Is it generally acceptable to submit with no passport and with an explanation, or is there a significant risk that the application will be returned as incomplete?
My main concern is that if the application is returned and I have to re-submit later, I may no longer have enough physical presence days to meet the 1,095-day requirement.
