I work as a truck driver for a Canadian trucking company and regularly run Canada–U.S. routes. I live in Canada, receive Canadian payroll, pay stubs and T4s, and my trips normally start in Canada, deliver in the U.S., then pick up another load and return to Canada. I do not do U.S.-to-U.S. domestic loads.
My concern is that on long-haul trips, a large part of my actual driving time is physically in the United States.
For CEC purposes, does IRCC consider the entire Canada–U.S.–Canada trip as Canadian work experience because I am employed and based in Canada, or should I only count the hours physically worked inside Canada?
Has anyone here applied for CEC as a Canada–U.S. cross-border truck driver? I would especially appreciate hearing from anyone whose application was approved or who received GCMS notes or questions from IRCC about time spent driving in the U.S.
