Regd 5 year eligibility period

Hello All,

With almost 5-7 days of buffer I submitted my citizenship application and after that I left the country.

But during the course of processing my application, CIC demanded additional documents. I submitted the additional documents but due to the delays at CIC end my photos got 6 months older. Now they asked me to submit the photo again.

When I try to submit the application, with the updated photos, their website forces me to recalculate the Physical Presence and is considering last 5 years for calculation rather than the time I originally submitted my application. Has anyone ever been into this kind of situation and also what to do for resolving this issue ?

Dont think there is any solution to this, since Application is being resubmitted, you will have to re calculate the presence

My assumption here is, application was returned by IRCC and not a request from IRCC to send additional document.

Very probably. I've never seen a case where IRCC asks for updated pictures even for applications that last years and years. The 6 months requirement is only in regard to the application date.

@DelhiUSCanada if that's indeed the case, we're talking about what could be seen as a brand new application, as if the previous one didn't exist (minus the citizenship fee that you should be able to reuse if not mistaken). And that means, well, a new eligibility period and a new physical presence calculation.
Obviously, if your current application is actually being processed (and you got your AOR), what would then be a very odd IRCC request can be sent via webform.

If you never received AOR your application was likely returned. Leaving after applying for citizenship especially with such a small buffer comes with risks.

My understanding is if you have NOT received an AOR, it means the application has been returned and you need to re-apply from scratch. Nothing you can do about this now unfortunately.

Your next steps :
Re-apply with all the proper updated documents (photo + whatever else) and re-calculate your physical presence from the new application date
(Note: i believe one must be physically present in Canada when hitting submit on the citizenship application)

If you're falling short of the required presence days with the new 5 year eligibility period (since you left the country), then your solution is :

• Come back to Canada >> Stay in Canada till you meet the physical presence requirement again (plus some buffer days - as commonly advised in this forum) >> Re-apply >> Wait for official AOR and processing to begin >> Only then travel abroad again (if you really need to)
