I crossed the Canada-US border to the USA using the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls with only my Permanent Resident card. I had no other travel documents.
Before embarking on this trip, I spoke to a CBSA officer at the post and he told me I’m allowed to cross and re-enter with my PR card.
While re-entering Canada, the CBSA officer asked me to follow another officer for a secondary inspection. I was told that since I am now a PR, IRCC is supposed to remove those restrictions from my file.
I asked if I need to wait until I get citizenship and he said no. Once you become a PR, you need to inform IRCC so they can remove such restrictions from your file. Otherwise, you will always have to go through secondary inspection any time you re-enter Canada.
I know it’s until u become a Canadian citizen. Because even though you are pr, you are protected person/convention refugee and you hold refugee travel document.
