Can outland permanent resident sponsor leave canada for couple of months?

Hi,

I am a permanent resident of Canada currently living in Canada. My work is based in Canada. I got married last year. Currently my wife is in India.

I applied for visitor visa for my wife before marriage as friend and after marriage as spouse, but both got rejected.

I have been told that I need to apply for permanent resident. After application, it will take around 1-2 months for AOR and then I can apply for visitor visa again after AOR, which again can take 1-2 months.

I am going to apply for my citizenship and my wife's PR next month and I will be an sponsor for this outland PR application.

My question is that since we have been separately living for quite some months, I am planning to go to India for 4-5 months after applying next month.

We have heard different views about leaving Canada. An agent from India has told that I can't go outside Canada for more than a month while my wife's PR application is in progress. An agent from Canada has told that I can go to India after applying the PR application and carry out rest of the process from India but the agent advised that I go after applying visitor visa.

So, I am confused whether I can go outside Canada, for how much time I can go and when can I go?

-You can go.

-IRCC advises PR sponsors can leave Canada for 'short trips.' There's no definition of short trips provided.

-Most would agree that less than a month is within 'short.'

-IRCC does not always enforce this, or at least not consistently.

-What can happen while you're away?

-They might ignore it, they might put it on hold (and check later if you're back), they might write something about it (effectively asking you as sponsor to explain and/or return to Canada and advise them, or they might conceivably (more rarely) deny the app.

-There are lots of opinions out there with speculation / guesses about when it's best to leave and for how long. As far as I can tell none of them are confirmed or consistent, just people assuming that whatever causal link they think they saw (based on intuition and one or two cases) is correct.

-I'm not up for advice but simple version is: if you can keep it under a month trip abroad, that would be safer.

BTW: if you apply for your spouse's visitor visa after getting AOR, higher (possibly much higher) chances of approval, which would allow the spouse to join you in Canada.

Why delay the spousal sponsorship process since applying for citizenship gives you no benefit? I would be applying asap.

For that matter, should have applied earlier after marriage. While there are some exceptions, usually the biggest factor determining how soon an app gets approved is how early one applies.
