Hello everyone,

My brother is a permanent resident of Germany (not a German citizen) and would like to move to Canada permanently. He is currently living and working in Germany.

We would like to know:

  • What immigration programs are available for someone in his situation?
  • Can he apply through Express Entry?
  • Does having permanent residency in Germany provide any advantages when applying for Canadian immigration?
  • What are the main requirements (education, work experience, language tests, etc.)?
  • Are there any provincial nominee programs that may be suitable for him?

Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Thank you!

- Same immigration programs as for everyone else.
- He can apply for Express Entry if he meets the minimum requirements. Note that meeting the minimum requirements doesn't mean he will be selected. People are selected based on points.
- Having Germany permanent residency gives him no advantages.
- Requirements depend on the program (there are many programs). He will need to dedicate time to researching if he's serious about immigrating.
- It's impossible to say what provincial nominee programs might be suitable given you've told us nothing about him. Note that these days, to have a chance of getting a nomination, you need to be already working in the province or you need to have a qualifying job offer in the province.
