Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice regarding my current work/PR situation in BC.
I’m currently on a closed work permit, and my spouse has an open work permit, while our kids are on study permits. I submitted my BCPNP-supported PR application in July and it is currently in process.
Recently, I received a new job offer, and the new employer is willing to fully support anything needed for my ongoing BCPNP-based PR application.
I’m now exploring the possibility of applying for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) so that I can legally start working with the new employer without affecting my existing PR file.
I would really appreciate guidance from anyone who has experience with a similar situation, specifically:
  • Is switching employers via a BOWP common for people with BCPNP applications in process?
  • Does changing employers have any impact on the BCPNP portion of the PR application?
  • Any practical steps, timelines, or issues I should be aware of?
  • Experiences from members who have successfully done this transition?
Thanks in advance for any insights or personal experiences. It will help me make an informed decision.

Hi Andy_aps.
You need to read Skills Immigration Post-Nomination Guide (PDF, 1MB)

In my opinion, your necessary steps to change employer:
1. Check your CONFIRMATION OF NOMINATION letter. If you see "No" in RESTRICTIONS ON EMPLOYMENT you are good to change an employer.
2. You need to info BC PNP via your BC PNP account to ask about future actions.
3. In my opinion, your new employer doesn't need to apply for LMIA. However, they should provide the list of documents and get an approve from province.
4. You can apply for BOWP only 4 months before you closed WP will expire.
5. You must apply for new closed WP after province approve your employer request.
6. You can start your new job before get new closed work permit if your new employer send a letter to IRCC about that.

I'm in the similar situation. Can you reach me in Telegram?
