My wife and I recently became PRs in Canada and we want to invite my wife’s sister to visit us next year. We’re planning to write an invitation letter and have it signed/stamped by a commissioner for oaths.

We’re trying to figure out who should write/sign the letter. Should it be my wife (since it’s her sister), even though she only works part-time? Or should I write it, since I’m the one with a full-time job and we’ll be stating that we will cover all her expenses?

If my wife writes the letter, is it okay for her to include my salary and employment information? Would I also need to sign it if we go that route?

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any advice or experience would be really helpful.

Having is stamped makes no impact. Your wife writes the letter as it is her sibling. Salary can be included but your SIL shows her own cash in the bank, travel history and ties to return. If single, then chances are low. Your salary is not cash in the bank. Letter of invitation outlines what she will do while in Canada and that she has the funds to come to Canada. Saying you will cover expenses in the letter will raise flags that she cannot afford to come to Canada.

Having you been living in Canada? If you only recently arrived I would wait until you get more established before inviting your sister. If your SIL applies for a TRV soon after you arrive in Canada there can be concerns she is trying to visit you. Not having her own funds to travel will likely be an issue and given the situation should only request a short visit 1-2 weeks.
