Hello everyone,

Got received this email “Streaming of Less Complex refugee protection claims for the claims”.
They asked me to submit some evidences and document within a month.

What should I expect now. I will prepare the documents but I need to understand the timeline. What to expect? Any similar experiences?
Anyone with less complex claim? Can u please walk me through ur timeline?

Thanks

Once you submit your evidence your claim will be reviewed to determine if you can be approved without hearing, you need a short hearing or you need a full hearing. Although in general a faster pathway wouldn’t say it is fast these days due to the volume of cases. Really tough to predict timelines these days because cases keep on being added to the backlog so processing times keep increasing.

Good day experienced members ,

Can I get your help please ?
My partner is a 2024 refugee claimant and just collect mailed address from the IRB saying the case is a less complex and that they need to respond saying they confirm and submit any documents. Please advise how can I advise them that theyjust got the mail and need a bit extra time ?

you can always write to them in the same address they told you to provide evidence to. just mention your case file and the details you want. but I would advise to try to collect evidence faster to keep things moving. May I know when did they submit their claim in 2024 and country of origin?

Speak to your lawyer.

We don’t have a representative for his case , so we address a letter explaining the delay with Canada post disruptions dated also all evidence and support documents we courier out for overnight delivery. Fingers crossed

Would really encourage you to hire one. Claiming asylum has significant longterm consequences on your life in Canada and abroad.

I applied for asylum at the end of 2024 and received a less complex case. I submitted my evidence in August 2025, and about a month later, I received another letter stating that the IRB is no longer considering my case as less complex and that I must attend a regular hearing. Since then, there have been no updates. My lawyer says that many people with similar cases are receiving decisions without a hearing, and that the IRB can make a decision on a case-by-case basis without holding a hearing. Has anyone gone through a similar situation? Thanks.

Tough to compare your case to others. Where are you from? It is true that some cases identified as less complex are given approval without a hearing. Some also require a short or full hearing. You are no longer considered part of the less complex pool and should expect to eventually get a full hearing but that could take a few years. There are huge backlogs for both less complex and normal pools of asylum claimants but the wait is longer for those who require a full hearing. There is nothing you can do but prepare your best case to show the persecution you face and the risk to your life in your home country and then wait for a hearing.
