Hi forum,

I was wondering whether there are any people on this forum who are going through the process of migrating to Quebec with small kids (younger than 5)?

Or maybe people who already landed and can share their expertise?

I understand that kids need to register in February for a start in August/September but it’s hard to plan because 1. processing times for EE can differ and 2. We don’t have a local address so no idea what school to enroll etc as long as we don’t actually live there.

And is it true that things become easier once the kids turn 5 and have a ‘guaranteed spot in the local school’?

Thanks for your input :)

You can register anytime. Registration opens in February but you can register at any point even during the school year for your local public French school. You will be accommodated at your local French school or at another school if necessary. There is not much you can do before you settle in Quebec. Assume you have applied to immigrate via a Quebec immigration stream. Quebec has their own immigration system unlike the rest of Canada.

Good to hear @canuck78 Thanks for your quick feedback :)
Is it the CSSDM that would inform me about the designated school based on my future home address?
Or can I freely choose the public French school? And are there waiting lists at all?

The public school(s) your children will be able to attend will be determined by your residential address. No, you cannot freely choose the school you want.
