Hi Maruchan, thank you for sharing your experience. A few more questions if you don't mind:I worked from home till I got my Canadian passport. I applied in urgent and got it next day.
1- I provided a custom letter from company as I was working on project.Hi Maruchan, thank you for sharing your experience. A few more questions if you don't mind:
1. Did the passport office need flight tickets or any other kind of proof for job? (I usually do commute by drive so can I show the job verification letter from my company that shows job location?)
2. How long did it take from Oath -> passport? So how many days after oath does citizenship certificate get delivered and then how many days after that passport?
3. Any issues on changing passport country for H1B/ any other visa you use to work in the US?
Thanks so much for the answers!1- I provided a custom letter from company as I was working on project.
2- Oath- Wed, Citizenship Certificate- THursday. Passport application- Friday Morning- Passport picked up- Friday eve.
3- You ll have to go in secondary to get I94 stamp on Canadian Passport.

If Canada brings back intent to remain and actually enforces it, there will be no takers for Canadian citizenship. If Canada wants the revolving door of people who bring in tax dollars and money, it has to accept that its a stepping stone. Money vs pride, only 1 choice.1. Job in the US is not typically considered for urgent processing. Why would Canada make it even faster for people to leave? Also why citizenship should require 5 years stay and intent to remain clause should be brought back.

Intent to remain made people stay past when they applied for citizenship. That meant one extra year for most. Don’t think that becomes make or break especially given what is going on with US immigration. Unless you are contributing millions the liability for 3 years in Canada does not make sense.

AT the beginning of the oath ceremony, you can mention it to the registrar. They will mostly accept the request.Hi @Maruchan,
Thanks for this.
How did you communicate your travel plans to get them to expedite the certificate?
Did you email them before or after the ceremony? or did you mention it during the oath ceremony?
Thank you!
Let me be clearer. Its not about the contribution of a single taxpayer. Its the combined effect.
Example:
Before its made illegal to leave Canada after citizenship:
- Number of PRs coming in: 300,000
- Taxes per average PR over 3 years: $30,000
- Total tax revenue: 9,000,000,000
After it is made illegal to leave after citizenship:
- Number of PRs coming in: 150,000
- Taxes per average PR over 3 years: $30,000
- Total tax revenue: 4,500,000,000
This is what I am saying. Fewer people will choose Canada. And those who do choose Canada under such draconian conditions will be those who are most desperate.
Take my example. I stayed in Canada for 5 years before leaving. In these 5 years, my total taxes to Canada was at least $300,000 (That is correct, i worked in tech for US based companies).
If there was this law that stated that I would lose the citizenship if I moved out of Canada, I would never have come in. I was and always will be a net positive for Canada. Even if I come back for retirement, I will be taxed on the sale of my investments. I will never be anything but a huge positive tax wise.
Also, you have no way to prove that more new Canadians stayed behind under C-24. That law barely lasted a year before being rightfully repealed. 1 year was not enough time to see the effect of more desperate immigrants coming in and those with options, staying out.
You should also be thankful to the OP here. He or she is residing in Canada, paying taxes in Canada and NOT taking a Canadian's job. He or she is the ideal immigrant. Be grateful that they chose Canada for whatever length of time.
