I’ve had biometrics from a recent visit visa app in April. The biometrics number and expiry date is currently showing on my express entry gckey account; however, I got a biometrics instruction letter Do I need to repeat biometrics? I’m a bit confused.

This is big misconception. So the rule says that your biometric is valid for 10 years and it will be considered only if you renew your same status that you applied for previously when you gave biometric.

e.g: You provided Biometric for Open Work Permit in last 10 years then it will be valid for your renewal of Open Work Permit within 10 years of last biometric.

Since you have now applied for PR which will change your status from Open Work Permit to PR it requires fresh biometric which will be valid for next 10 years and you would not need to provide biometric when you renew your PR.

If your biometrics from the April visit visa application are already showing on your Express Entry GCKey account then you likely do not need to repeat biometrics. IRCC usually reuses valid biometrics for new applications if they’re still within the 10-year validity period. If you're still unsure, you can raise a webform query to IRCC with your UCI and application number, explaining the situation.

Yea, would have sent a web form but I’ve completed it now.

Temporary Resident application biometric can not be used for Permanent resident applications, that’s why for the PR application we must do it again.
