Hi everyone,

I’m on a work permit in Canada and want to apply for a visitor visa for my father, since his previous one expired.

Some context:

Last time I applied (for my convocation), he visited Canada for a few days and then returned.

He has a business in South Africa and is a permanent resident there, but his nationality is from lets say Country A.

Here’s the challenge:

Processing time in South Africa: ~600 days

Processing time in Country A: ~50 days

My father is currently in Country A and often visits there.

My question:

Can I apply for his visitor visa from Country A instead of South Africa to benefit from the shorter processing time? Would this be considered misrepresentation?

I’m really looking for guidance on the safest and most practical way to handle this, especially from people who’ve dealt with IRCC visitor visas. Any advice or personal experiences would be super helpful!

If he is home country his TRV file can be filed there. Would not count on processing times in general but especially the one listed for his home country if he spends the majority of time in South Africa.

If majority of the time lets say 8 months are in south africa and he is currently in his home country, would you recommend filing it in home country since processing time according to IRCC is way more. What would you recommend?

As someone said USA basically use the same criteria as Canada, I think that will work.

My in-laws got their US visa approved in their home country. There's no waiting list in Country A versus in Canada there's waiting list for more than 1 year.

Did you provide letter of explanation?

You can apply from your home country but I wouldn’t count on the posted processing time given the more complex application. Do not book travel until you have the TRV.
