Hello everyone,

I’m kindly seeking guidance from this wonderful forum.

I am sponsoring my mother under the outland family sponsorship stream. She has already completed her biometrics, and we are now waiting for the medical request.

She currently holds a valid 10-year visitor visa and we would like her to visit us in Canada as soon as possible and live with us while the sponsorship is processed.

My questions are:

1. Is it possible for her to do the required medical examination in Canada once she arrives as a visitor?

2. Can we request IRCC to switch her application from outland to inland sponsorship while she is here, so that we can avoid the extra steps involved in sending her passport abroad for visa stamping and related processes?

Any advice, experiences, or suggestions from those who have been through a similar situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Do you mean PGP?

She can attempt to visit you during processing. Yes she can pay you for her medical testing in Canada. You should always advise IRCC of change of location. If she is visiting Canada during processing the application will be processed inland. She can not move to Canada until her PR is approved.

I was going to ask a similar question when I stumbled over this post. My mother is currently not feeling well and I would like to bring her to Canada right after I submit the Parent Visa. If the medical check can be done in Canada, can the biometrics be done here as well? I read that the biometrics that she submitted last year for her super visa will not matter and she has to redo it. Since we're also going via the Quebec route and CSQ program is frozen right now, it would be best that she comes over so I can care for her in the meantime. Hoping that this is possible?

Yes, she can do these from within Canada. She won't qualify for provincial health care coverage so you should make sure you take out travel coverage and be prepared to pay anything that isn't covered out of pocket.

Not feeling well screams preexisting condition to me that would not be covered by most emergency travel medical insurance/supervisa policies. The processing through Quebec will likely take many years so although your mother has been selected that does not guarantee she will qualify for PR especially if she already has health issues. For a variety of reasons you need to be prepared that she could have to return home at some point. If she needs access to routine healthcare that also could be problematic as a non-RAMQ holder. If she could access care would your family also be able to absorb what could be a significant cost. All things that need to be considered. If on a normal TRV passing a medical is often a requirement of any extension request. On a supervisa she would have to both quality and pay for supervisa insurance annually but that is only emergency medical insurance which will not cover active preexisting conditions.
