I am on H1B in USA. Lost the job, so pretty much on 2 month notice.
I have an open permit for Canada with 2 years and few months more to go.
I do not have Masters, only Bachelors from India. My age is 40.

I reckon the only chance I might have is PNP.

I am looking at Alberta PNP, which i believe will be Alberta Opportunity Stream.
Does it awards points to each applicant and then draw based upon cut off?

I went through https://www.alberta.ca/system/files/im-worker-stream-expression-of-interest-points-grid.pdf
and my score is coming to be 42.

Any idea what is the cut off?

According to this article
https://www.cicnews.com/2025/07/alb...in-most-recent-immigration-draws-0757945.html,

the cut off for July 11, 2025 draw was 72. Where can I see other draw cut-off?
What are my chances, seems very dim?
Any suggestion which state will be the best step forward?

Sorry for too many questions.

Thanks

Essentially zero. How do you have an OWP?

PNP isn't going to happen unless you are already working in the province or have a qualifying job offer in the process. Does either apply to you?

How many months do you have left on the OWP exactly?

Still would be nearly impossible given age and no mention of family in Alberta. Also unclear what their NOC is but pretty good chance it is not one of the in demand NOCs given country of origin, H1B and bachelor’s degree.

Yes, it is not in demand. I am in IT. I got OWP through the H1B Program which was there last year. I still have around 2 years 3 months left on OWP.
If I go and work there for a year or 6 months, will that add points? including perhaps a Masters?

I think I will gain 23 points if I work in Alberta for 6 months, plus I do any part time masters. It will add 23 . So I had 45 before, then it can become 68. May be some other state would have a better fit?

I am pretty much done with US. This is my third project from where I am being let go, and even when there is a project, the employers very well know how dependent folks are on Visa make life hell. May be I am lazy or whatever, I can't do this anymore, those who can, congratulations to them. I just want to live a peaceful life.

Does having a job is enough, and any idea which state might be most promising in term of future PNP?
I gather Alberta even if I go and live and work there, will help me reach 68 points max if I do masters there and also work for 6 months. Which is still less than the last cut off of 72 they had.

Is there any such state which might give PR for any masters program or if I get a job or live there for sometime?
I remember New Brunswick had a very easy program in Oct last year, but I had some health issues, so moving was not the first thing on my mind.

AOS probably not an option. Do you even have a job offer with eligible employer. Don't think IT is in demand. There are 41k profiles in the pool and right now about 2500 spots for 2025. Where are you doing a part time Masters.

Nothing yet. I do not have a job and neither I am doing any masters. I wanted some guidance, if I have to search for a job in Canada or and do masters, what would lead to a path to PR eligibility?

Currently, I can either find a job in US since my current project will be done in 1.5 months, or I can go to canada and find a job etc. But I do not know which PNP program would lead to a PR. I gather Alberta seems like a no go.

Any idea if I do masters or find a job which state or and PNP program would be the best option?

Thank you so much!

Are you doing a Masters in Canada or the US? What is your Express Entry CRS score? You want to have over 520 to have a chance if not fluent in French and English. PNPs are very competitive with specific NOCs and scores selected. No PNP is easy so you have to decided whether you can get a job before you come to Canada or come to Canada and look for an answer.

No not doing any masters. My highest education is bachelor's. I doubt I have that much score. But I will check again. No I do not have a profile either yet. I had but that expired some years ago.

Enter the pool but without Canadian work experience you will not get invited. If PR is your goal without even coming to Canada, you need to learn French

Canada doesn't have states.

A job offer is not necessarily enough.

It seems like you really haven't done any research. You need to dedicate time to researching the various programs and their requirements or alternatively hire an immigration lawyer to help you.
