Hi folks

i just received my

Hi team,

For anyone who’s done the virtual oath — how soon after did you get the email or link to download your citizenship certificate? My oath is on the 2nd (Tuesday), and so far I’ve only gotten the invite. Should I be worried?
You shouldn’t be worried. I got my download email about a week before the oath ceremony. Besides, during oath ceremony, they would still ask you for your preferred type of citizenship certificate ( either paper or electronic).

Hi Everyone, I just got my oath updated to in progress on tracker. No email received yet.

Here's my full timeline:

March 31: Application Submitted
April 25: AOR received in Email
May 23: Test Invite received
May 30: Test Taken
June 4: Test Marked Completed
June 10: Background Verification marked as Completed
* LPP showed in progress on tracker the whole time
August 25: called IRCC, they said LPP has not even started
August 28: Tracker updated, showing LPP completed (August 26th) and Oath In Progress
* Oath is scheduled for September 16th.

I didn't receive any ghost update in the process. I don't know the processing office and never tried to figure out because I think it's irrelevant.

Wish everyone luck.

Happy for you and thank you for mentioning the part that you called and they said LPP not started and after two days you get LPP completed. This has been on many peoples minds

Thanks, I got a feeling that IRCC is not really happy with people calling to check on their progress. I called because I have a trip planned for October and I had to make a decision ASAP on whether I can make it or not, and I told them I've heard the info IRCC sees might be different from what I see, hoping I'll hear LPP is done in which case I would still commit to my trip. The agent got a little bit upset and said no we see exactly what you see and you shouldn't believe what people say online. Ironically, he told me LPP shows not started on his side while it showed in progress on my side, proving my point.

I think if they want to have people stop calling them, they should make sure the tracker is consistent and sufficient. I'm hoping it will be in the future, IRCC's tools have improved a lot over the past 10 years and is much better than most countries, but again, these applications are big changes for a lot of applicants and they need to be able to plan around the timing.

I wish everyone in this forum good luck and hope you all get updates soon.

I personally think that in reality there is no meaningful difference between not started and in progress. They're both simplifications, and I suspect in practice they're identical - that is, 'not started' doesn't actually mean that, it's a flag marked that way in the notes the call centre agent looks at, but is mapped to in progress in the tracker.

Yes, it's probably not exactly the same. I think the tracker info is a summation of info, and not always most accurate and detailed. So I agree with you on that point.

But I don't think 'not started' as reported means not started in plain English language - just the name of a database field/flag.

I don't know if I'm explaining this well, but I'm saying this having looked at some gcms notes, and you can find 'not started' marked in places where something clearly has been started and is in progress. (The fields can also contradict each other and the summaries/dates at different points can lead to confusion).

Congrats! Are you in the GTA?

FYI for others - another thing that I think is a red herring in discussion of files and info one gets from the call centre people, the "Vancouver office" - as far as I can tell, lately anyway, Vancouver seems to be the primary office for most citizenship apps, and they seem to be responsible for them until LPP is cleared - i.e. including background and prohibitions (which include security clearances).

So yep - all files that are delayed are held up 'in Vancouver.' Because that's the office holding the files (all files, probably) during the part that leads to delays.

Just looked at some gcms notes and it was just this. Even though a different office did our online interview (for physical presence) and will do the ceremony (whenever), because those seem to be linked to different geographic offices.

My suspicion is that there's actually no paper file, either.

Oh - and RC-8090 is not one single officer that delays things, either - it's just a code for Sydney.

Can you please share the webform email template you used to reschedule

We didn't submit a webform, but replied to the Oath email once received. Posting the email template below.

Application ID: INSERT APPLICATION NUMBER
INSERT NAME (UCI: INSERT UCI)
INSERT NAME (UCI: INSERT UCI)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I’m writing to request a reschedule for our citizenship oath ceremony. We’re a family application of two — INSERT NAME & INSERT NAME — and have included our application number and UCI numbers above. Our ceremony is currently scheduled for 4 September 2025 @ 8:30AM ET.

We won’t be able to attend because we’ll be in Italy getting married, then flying to England to celebrate with family. This trip has been planned for two years, and we booked our flights on INSERT BOOKING DATE
We’ll be away from INSERT DATES AWAY.
I’ve attached our travel confirmation as proof.

We’re very excited to become Canadian citizens and kindly request that our ceremony be rescheduled to any date after INSERT DATE OF RETURN, and would be grateful if you could advise on any further steps required to facilitate this.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
INSERT NAME (UCI: INSERT UCI)

Excellent sample letter and very thorough. You didn't specify, however, to whom you're each getting married, but at least you're celebrating together.

Congrats (in advance).
