Best PR Path for 2-Year College Grad: Ontario, Atlantic, or Alberta?

Hi everyone,

I recently graduated from George Brown College with a 2-year Business diploma. I don’t have Canadian work experience yet, but I do have a CLB 7 language score.

I’m currently in Toronto but I’m ready to relocate anywhere in Canada if it helps me get PR quicker. I was first thinking about moving to Northern Ontario for the OINP International Student Stream (ISS). But now I’m also wondering — would it be faster or better for me to move to Atlantic Canada (AIP) or Alberta (AAIP) instead?

My main goal is to find the most realistic and fastest pathway to PR. I would really appreciate advice from people who went through OINP ISS, AIP, or AAIP:

• Which region/program do you think is best for someone with my background?
• What are the most important steps I should take right now?
• What kind of jobs or employers should I focus on?
• Are there any common mistakes I should avoid?

There is no fast way. Alberta not an option because you didn't study in the province. AIP only an option if you find a designated employer. Focus on getting a job in Northern Ontario.

Learn French. That is your best option. You also should max out your IELTS. Do you have other degrees? Do you have foreign work experience? A business degree from George brown makes it very difficult to get PR.

I think those are important for Express Entry. Yes, I do have foreign working experience, but have no power to learn French anymore lol as I learned English in Canada.

You would have had to speak English to get a study permit so not at all questionable. You have a 2 year business degree and potentially no other degree, low IELTS scores compared to many PR applicants, assume you won’t be able to work in a priority occupation, etc. Learning French actually gives you the best option unless you get extremely lucky somehow and get an RCIP spot. Many of these spots go current residents since cities want to retain people for the longterm and many of the jobs are in priority occupations. I don’t think you realize how challenging getting PR may be. Do you have a 2nd degree that was declared on your study permit? You need to increase your IELTS score as much as possible.

I don’t really see why I would need to improve my English score further, since I already have CLB 7. For Express Entry that might be an issue, but I’m not planning to apply through Express Entry. Both OINP International Student Stream and RCIP accept CLB 7, so my questions are specifically about those programs.

So focus on getting a job through those streams.
