Have your received your FD or BGC completed?

Good day,
I have a few questions regarding my brother and his wife’s case. My sister-in-law first came to Canada on a work permit and was residing in BC. My brother is a Canadian citizen, and through mutual friends, they met in 2024 and later got married in April 2025.

My sister-in-law was on a two-year work contract but decided to leave her job about 6–7 months before the contract ended, based on advice she received from a consultant. They initially consulted with an immigration consultant for help with the inland spousal sponsorship process but eventually decided to prepare and submit the application themselves.

Her current work permit is set to expire this coming November. They are now considering applying for a visitor visa so she can remain in Canada while waiting for the Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR), at which point they plan to apply for an open work permit (SOWP).

Would she be eligible to apply for a visitor visa at this stage? If not, what other options would be available for her to maintain legal status in Canada while waiting for the sponsorship process to move forward?

Thank you

Same here. Submitted Application on the 23rd of August 2024. Medical updated in GCkey and Tracker onthe 21st and 22nd of August respectively. Hoping to hear from IRCC soon
Was following the July's applicants, the ones who got the medical update twice they got the FD after 10 to 12 days after that.
So fingers crossed, we're gonna hear something soon!

If she applied whilst being in status (I.e. having a valid work permit), she doesn't need to do anything else. She will have her status maintained whilst the application is being processed, even if her work permits expires. You don't need to wait for AOR either, it's from the moment you send the application.

Hey. not true. You have to send new owp application to get implied status.

My understanding (as a current applicant) is that the moment you send the application, your status is maintained. Is that not true?
What "application" are you referring to?
If that's the optional Open Work Permit, yes, it does give maintained/implied status.
If that's the sponsorship application, that's incorrect. Family class or spousal sponsorship does not give any implied/maintained status.

I just looked it up, and you are correct. My apologies. I was under the impression that as long as the PA had a valid work permit when submitting their PR application, they would have implied status until FD even if their original permit expires. Good to know!
