Hi everyone,

I was nominated through the OINP under the Employer Job Offer – Foreign Worker Stream. A few weeks ago I received my eCOPR and my permanent residence has been confirmed. I have not yet received my PR cards (I know this can take time for the photo/address validation), but my understanding is that permanent resident status begins from the issuance of the eCOPR, not from receiving the physical cards.

My question is: I’m quite tired of the employer who sponsored me and I now have the opportunity to move to a better job. Since I already have my eCOPR, can I resign without fear of losing my permanent residence status?

Thanks for any advice or shared experiences.

You're a PR now, even if you haven't received your PR card. You're safe to quit your job if you want to.

You’re absolutely right that your permanent resident (PR) status begins the moment IRCC issues your eCOPR—the physical PR card is just proof of status for travel, not the status itself.
Now, regarding your situation with the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP):
The Employer Job Offer – Foreign Worker Stream requires that, at the time of nomination and PR application, you genuinely intended to work for the employer who supported your nomination.
  • Once your PR is approved and you’ve received your eCOPR, you are a permanent resident of Canada, not tied to that employer anymore. There is no condition on your PR status that forces you to keep working for the sponsoring employer after landing. Canada does not have “conditional PR” linked to job offers under provincial nomination streams.
