It has to be lol I used expired PR card to enter the border and that's how I can get my 2-year period started to count

I'm actually not familiar with the ATIP reports for border crossings (want to order one soon) and what info they disclose.

Again in theory, if you have that entry record and it doesn't identify you as a foreign national (PRs are not considered foreign nationals), then to me that is rather a rock-solid argument that you are a PR/were a PR at time of entry.

[Hypothetically a PR could be 'reported' at the time of entry as not compliant and subject to potential renunciation - but that is not something automatic and contingent upon the PR's ability to appeal (and hence likely delayed for some period of time, months at least). And that PR would retain the right to work until the case gets to its final disposition.]

Sadly, you will still face the issue that you'd have to convince an employer of this logic, and they may not want to deal with such things.

I posted my entry experience on a separate post. I wasn't issued A44 reports nor asked to waive my PR status. CBSA officer simply asked me to contact IRCC and book an appointment. They will decide if my status is still valid. It has been one and a half month, and I haven't received any mail or phone call. Not sure if I have been reported yet. If I haven't received anything over half a year since my entry, I would assume CBSA didn't report me.

Yes, I was referring to case of what might be on ATIP is someone is reported - and even in those cases, if the ATIP said anything, in most cases the person in question would still be presumed to be a PR (and hence right to work).

At least you have a SIN. Those who don't have SINs have to jump over still more hoops.

Hi guys,

Need your help here. My PR expired and I haven't met residence obligation. I came back to Canada from US by land early October this year. My plan is to stay in Canada for 2 years and then renew my PR card.

I recently found a job and the employer is using Sterling Backcheck to conduct background check on me. In one section, it asks for my eligibility to work. I can either provide my PR card or COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence) to prove my status. Since my PR card is expired, I provided my COPR document. But there is also a part on COPR called "expiry date", right next to "travel document no". That date is also expired but that date matches with my travel document expiry date. So I believe that is the expiry date for my travel document.

Now the Sterling Backcheck believes my COPR is expired and asks me to provide a valid proof of identity document. What can I do guys? Has anyone encountered this situation?
Asking because I’m in this same situation. Were you able to enter canada with an expired PR card or have you entered canada before your PR card expired? Thank you

Just because someone else was able to enter around a year ago doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to. Immigration priorities have changed in Canada and there is a lot of luck involved.
