Hi everyone
I shall be so grateful if someone guide me . I applied for pr (pnp non express)on March 2024 still waiting for final decision. My work permit expiring on Feb 2026. My son is 16 and is on visitor record that's expiring In January 2026. His trv also expiring the same time. my question is when i apply for my bowp what should I do for my son's extension as his trv is also expiring the same time.
Should i add him in my bowp or apply for his visitor record extension?should I apply mine bowp first then his extension? Or what are the options for him. He is studying in senior high.
Plz guide me

When you apply for your Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP), your son cannot be included in that application because dependents are not eligible for a BOWP. Instead, since your son is 16 and studying in high school, you should apply to extend his status separately. He currently has a visitor record, but as a minor attending school in Canada, he normally needs a study permit rather than just a visitor record. When you apply for your BOWP, you can submit a separate application for your son to apply for a study permit (which would also allow him to remain in school without issues) or, if you prefer, you could extend his visitor record if the school accepts it. The better option in most cases is to apply for a study permit so his status matches his activity. You don’t have to wait for your BOWP to be approved before applying for his extension; you can submit both applications around the same time to avoid gaps in status. If his Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is expiring in January 2026, that is just the entry visa — what matters for his stay inside Canada is his legal status, which comes from the visitor record or study permit. So, focus on keeping that valid. In short, you should apply for your BOWP for yourself and a study permit (or visitor record extension, if that’s the route you choose) for your son as two separate applications, ideally before his current status expires.

Thank you so much for your guidance in details. I had no idea what to do. I will go through these options. So grateful
