Hey everyone,

I applied for express entry in November last year, seems i got put into the Canada Experience Class and I've been waiting 10 months now. Is this considered typical in terms of waiting times or am I looking at waiting for a lot longer?
  • I have 518 CRS points but its about to go slightly down because my birthday is coming up..
  • I have been working here for over 2 years now through IEC and have an extension pending, so I can keep working here while the extension is being processed, though it doesnt seem my points are going to go any higher unless im here for another year working, but even then i doubt my extension will go on for that long.
  • I can't move or make any plans until it comes in and the only way I can seem to gain any more points is by learning French.. I have a bachelors and masters degree, many years of experience in what i do, I'm a general manager, I spent all this money to take the english test (despite literally being english) and got my qualifications approved through the third party company etc. so they count. I don't understand how so many people have more points for Canada Experience Class other than just being younger and speaking french? Like what more do I have to do to be more qualified, there's basically no higher role that i can achieve in what i do and a PHD would take so many years that i would actually lose points for my age going up lol
Let me know if any of you have any insight as the constant state of being in limbo is tearing me apart at this point for me and my partner. My work situation is not good right now but again i cant just up and leave and move anywhere else in Canada, so I'm very stuck until this gets round to being processed. Just wish they gave you even the tiniest indication of when it might even be looked at, heck just give me a straight up "no", instead of keeping me in this constant state of not knowing. I'm sure many here can feel my pain.

Thanks,

Nobody can anticipate the what draws may happen and when. Assume you’re not in a priority occupation which would also help.

There's no average or typical or expected wait time for Express Entry draws. It's not a first in, first out program. It's entirely points based. The people who are outscoring you and being selected are younger, have French, have Canadian education, have higher education and/or have a sibling in Canada. There are any number of ways to achieve a higher score. If you have maxed out your points and don't want to learn French then you'll need to wait more and hope points go down for draws

Yeah I guess that would probably be the case. Just trying to do anything I can to be informed to make myself feel better. The experience has taken a toll over me so I'm just doing what I can do cope. I'm going to start learning french now to get my points up a bit, which is basically the only thing left I can do. Thanks for the reply

Learning French makes sense. How much longer is your work permit valid for?

Its expired. I applied for an extension but as ive been here two years on an iec it will be denied. So I'm just working day by day hoping that the invite will come along before i get the rejection letter.

I see. That's a messy situation. The extension is definitely going to be refused. Even if you get ITA before that refusal, submit your complete application and get AOR - you may still end up in Canada without status and need to leave. Hard to say either way since you no longer have a valid work permit and applied for an extension you don't qualify for. You'll have to wait and see what happens and have a plan B in place in the event you fall out of status. But I'm sure you already knew that and have factored this into your plans.

Indeed. It's rough because i only discovered a few days ago that the application would be refused. Thanks God i checked here at least so i can actually make plans. I'm now just selling some of my things to have blanket money to keep a float in that event.

After AOR, they can apply for BOWP. So that doesn't mean that they'll stay here without status?

You need to meet one of the following criteria to be able to apply for BOWP:
  • have a valid work permit
  • have an expired work permit but maintained your status as a worker
  • be eligible to restore your status and get a work permit
I applied for the extension and ticked the box under the reason for applying to be about waiting for express entry to get a PR. At the time i applied i had a valid work permit under the eic, but it has since expired. They initially wrote me a letter back to say i can stay in canada until they have reached a decision. For the express entry side of things, they basically just accepted my profile and said they will contact me if im to get an invite, as well as some random job search stuff, tho i dont need to search for a job since i have been working the same job for over 2 years here now as a manager.

From what everyone has told me, it doesnt matter if i applied for an extension or if i am waiting for an invite with express entry, it will be refused 100%. I applied for it about 3 months ago so i guess any day now im gonna get kicked..

You misinterpreted the form and applied for a BOWP. You needed to have an ITA and AOR to apply.

For express entry, did you max out your English test. What was your listening and reading score? Listening carries more mark. You can look into improving your english score if they are not maxed out

Correct. It is 100% guaranteed you will be refused. You don't meet any of the requirements for an extension.
