Hi everyone, I am not quite yet at the oath stage (so far I have only completed test and background check), but I am wondering if we can do our first passport application overseas ? I am currently on a temporary work assignment overseas and I am planning to come back to Canada for the Oath, then fly back and apply for passport at the local Canadian consulate. Anyone has a thought on this ?

Thank you! Appreciate it!

Fingers crossed we get lucky. Do you happen to know if you can reschedule the oath before getting the invitation email?
Or do you know how long the invitation email typically takes?

I just read online that you should try and submit the reschedule 30 days before your oath date. The preferred method in replying to the invitation email, however you can also submit a web form.
The issue with web form, is it asks for the office, location, & date + time of the oath, and I am unsure on all of these details asides from the date...
Go to the oath dates website and you will see most oaths scheduled within the next few weeks. Usually, you are assigned to the office close to your area. so it could be the best guess

I would apply from Canada; overseas applications usually take a long time. Many passport offices have the expedited option where you can collect the passport the next day. My spouse was applying to get his passport in 2 working days with the urgent option. You just need to show them your trip booking.

Yes, it's not an issue. As noted it may be faster and worth it to apply in Canada with urgent processing, but up to you. Note that you may not be able to board a flight to Canada until you do get the passport (or one of the very rare other ways to do so, intended only for emergencies and a big hassle).

Oath date has been really unfortunate. I'm travelling to the states September 7-11 for a conference and I'm giving a talk on the 10th. I have no choice but to reschedule this. What would be the process?

Wait for the oath email and follow the instructions.

You might consider filing for a different date not using the reason of 'travel' but instead wanting to switch from virtual to in person (or vice versa). I have reason to think that this is often faster - caveat at least for those in large cities with regular citizenship ceremonies (for virtual to in person at least, don't know about the opposite case).
