Is there something in your profile that may lead to longer FESS? Country of origin? When did you claim asylum? Just to clarify IRB sent you a letter out of the blue asking you to follow-up on FESS processing or did you contact IRB asking about why you have not received a hearing date yet?

In cases where confirmation of security screening remains pending at twelve (12) months from the date of referral, the RPD will convene a conference with the claimant, counsel and Minister's counsel and may fix a date for a hearing.

The interesting thing is that the provision clearly states that IRB MAY fix a date for a hearing, not WILL... so it is up to IRB at the end considering several factors including the backlog :(

As of end of July 2025, the backlog is around 290,000 refugee claims. With an average processing of 70,000 refugee claims per year, this means that it may take up to 4 years to clear the backlog :(

I don't want to discourage anyone... I wish there will be some ways to clear the backlog and process all these 290,000 claims...

Good Luck to all those still waiting.. I fully appreciate what you are going through. I was there for exactly 2 years.

Agree that people need to be anticipating much longer processing times. Those who applied in the past 2 years may be facing a 3+ year wait until they receive a hearing. Processing times for PR will also increase as the backlog builds up and Canada tries to decrease number of PRs snd the quota for PRs from protected people and refugees is relatively small give the numbers of applicants. Also agree that although difficult people need to focus on working in Canada and gaining skills in the hopes that after they have their hearing and if it is approved they are already self-sufficient, living a stable life and have already started Integrating into Canadian life.
