Hello I have submitted BOC on 15-08-2023, still waiting for hearing appointment! My question after complete 2 years of waiting,I was wondering if following up on my application could potentially help expedite the process, or if it wouldn’t make a difference?!

Nope, it’s only depends on your specific RPD judge. They know when they will ask you to submit evidence or hearing date. But when they ask you additional information answer quickly.

If your case was an outlier maybe but many are waiting 2 years for a hearing these days. There is a very large backlog and only a limited capacity to process a certain number of applicants every year.

Are you located in Eastern provinces?. The delay could be due to that. Also, complexity of your case and delay in background check and FESS.

Hello, I submitted my BOC on 27-01-2023, I am still waiting for a hearing after 2 years and 7 months.
I claimed asylum inland, Montreal Quebec.
My question is after 2 years and 7 months, is there a way I could follow up on my application? Is there anyway to make the processing time faster? Is it normal to wait over 2.5 years to get a hearing?
I’ve been trying to get in touch with my lawyer as well for the past 2 weeks but she hasn’t been replying to my emails.
Anyone else in the same situation? What can I do?

Hi actually, I got my case approved without hearing, Toronto. You can call RPD and ask them. Good luck

Oh wow! Congratulations!
Did you receive an email beforehand telling you that your application was being considered for a file review process or was the decision letter just sent without any prior communication ?
Thank you! I will try to call them.

Sadly that is becoming fairly common wait time for a hearing. As previously noted you can follow-up with IRB about when you can possibility expect a hearing date. They may or may not be able to give you an approximate timeline.

Given long processing time this is not going to be the case for @Morale who will likely need a full hearing. Some people who have been identified as less complex cases with very high chances of approval can be approved without hearing typically like your case in the days before the hearing. That is still a small minority of asylum cases in Canada. Many still have a short hearing and some still have a full hearing. The system was put in place to try to process cases with high chances of approval more efficiently and reduce costs. Even the system for less complex cases that have expedited processing has become overwhelmed and processing times have increased.
