Hi guys,

I am thinking about applying for my nephews tourist visa to Canada. He is still a minor and his parents won’t be coming with him. He would rather be coming with his grandmother (my mom) if possible. His grandmother has her visa. His grandmother will be sponsoring him for the trip and his parents can write an approval letter stating they are okay with this trip.

Do you guys think there is any chance that a visa for a minor will be approved when his immediate parents are not applying for the visa to come with him as well?

If so is there any extra steps involved in applying for a minor?

Thanks a lot in advance for your responses!

I would consult a lawyer and file a strong application so in case if refusal comes you can approach federal court via judicial review. Now a days IRCC is refusing via AI for no reasons so you need to ensure application is strong and you can pursue further if required else you unintentionally will damage your nephews visa history and subsequently a refusal will impact him everywhere/any other country he applies going forward.

Not realistic for most to pay thousands of dollars and wait a long time just to see if TRV will get reassessed.

true, but i am giving the honest feedback based on the current situation ongoing with TRVs so people are prepared.

There are better options and often valid reason for denial. Is a nephew visiting Canada foe a few weeks like a regular tourist worth the thousands going through JR without a guaranteed outcome? Likely not.
