I am a Medical Social Worker in India with two years of professional experience and hold a Master’s degree in Social Work, with a specialization in Medical and Psychiatry. I am planning to pursue a Post-Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Recovery Practitioner at NorQuest College in Edmonton. My IELTS overall score is 6.5.

For my financial proof, I am providing the following documents:

Income Tax Returns (ITR) showing an annual income of ₹1 crore

Fixed deposits amounting to ₹20 lakhs

My father's bank statements for the past six months

Proof of payment for one year’s full tuition fees

Would this be sufficient for my Canadian student visa application

If you have a Masters with specialization in psychiatry why are you going to a college? This is not education progression as it is for those to learn about mental health needs and how to navigate through the mental health system. Program makes no sense. The program doesn't even require a degree only for admission. How will it give you a higher pay in home country when you return? Also based on the Canadian system so how will it apply to your clients navigating through your country's system. Focus is on Canada, not your country.

As for funds, don't know conversion but you want to show cash in the bank so cash in FD. Income tax return is not cash. And if over 22, you show your own bank statements not parents. How old are you because you should be funding your own education.

IELTS Acacemic is the minimum score so may be asked to have a higher score.

Assume program is for 2026.

Thank you for your input. I’m 25 years old and currently working in the Child Development Department. While I hold a Master’s in Social Work (Medical & Psychiatry), this PG diploma focuses on practical, recovery-oriented mental health care, which complements my current experience and supports my long-term goals in community-based mental health.

I understand your concern about education progression, but my aim is to gain hands-on training and international exposure—especially in recovery models that are still emerging in India. I plan to apply this knowledge to strengthen mental health support services back home.

Regarding finances, I’m applying under the Non-SDS category with my father as sponsor. I’ve included ITRs, fixed deposits, six months of bank statements, and an affidavit of support. I will also be attaching my own bank details for added transparency.

I really appreciate your feedback and am open to any further suggestions you may have.

The only thing to count is cash in the bank from your bank accounts. Father's does not have to be considered because you are 25 years old. There is no non-SDS or SDS categories. IRCC got rid of that a couple of years ago.

So how are you showing and justifying the costs of the program with higher pay when you return. Coming to Canada for one year seems like such a waste of a lot of money.

You are taking a certificate not a diploma at a college. There is a difference. Also isn't most of the program online too? No need to come to Canada.

When does program start with approved PAL?

Yes, it’s a Post-Graduate Certificate, not a diploma, but it’s designed for professionals like me to gain hands-on skills in recovery-oriented mental health care. I chose the in-person classes for deeper learning and professional exposure.
Though I’m 25, many early-career applicants still submit parental sponsorship under Non-SDS with proper documents. I’ve also added my own bank statement for balance.
This program aligns closely with my current role in child development, and I believe the investment will help me contribute more meaningfully back home.
And the program starts on Jan 2026

Appreciate your thoughts!

Ok but still a waste of money if you can do it online. Not sure why you have to come to Canada if not going to a university since you have a Masters. Saying in person gives deeper learning and professional exposure isn't really true. You haven't been in a Canadian college.

Again you can include parents' statements but you are not a dependant and IRCC may not consider the funds. Make sure he has not only the $21k cash in the bank but that much more to support himself and any other family members.

Good luck.
