Hi everyone,

I received my ITA in early May 2025 and submitted my eAPR on 29th June 2025. At the time of submission, my passport was valid until mid-March 2026 — so it had approximately 8.5 months of validity remaining.

I understand that IRCC typically takes around 6–8 months to process Express Entry applications. Given that, I’m concerned that my Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and visa — once issued — may be limited in validity due to my passport expiry. I want to avoid a situation where the visa is issued with only a few weeks of validity left, as that would leave me with very little time to plan my landing and relocation.

Would it be advisable to renew my passport around mid-September 2025, and proactively inform IRCC of the new details through a webform? The goal is to ensure that my passport remains valid throughout processing and allows for a full COPR/visa validity period.

Would appreciate any guidance or shared experiences on this — thank you!

Yes, renew it now. It's completely routine for applicants to renew passports, so just do it asap.
After updating the passport, we have to submit it to the IRCC through webform. Right? When I open the webform they are asking me, "Is your application being processed by an office outside Canada? " & "Choose the visa office processing your application.". How do I get an answer to both of these? Also, I don't have any UCI yet. How to get that? That is required for the application tracker.

It's recommended to send it but not critical*, esp this early. Wait until you get the UCI and then submit the new passport info. Guess at the office (based on country of origin) or if you don't know, submit to Ottawa or Sydney, they'll eventually stick it in the right file.

*Again, it's pretty routine. Less chance of issues if you provide them the new passport info in advance though. Main thing to avoid is trying to do it at last minute, esp if from a country where it can take a long time to renew. You don't want to have to scramble when you get the news about passport request.

When can i expect to get my UCI?

I just have the application number. Where can I get a temporary UCI? The one showing in the portal? If i enter that in application tracker it says invalid.

There is no temporary UCI. It's permanent. If you've ever applied for one, you can use that one.

Otherwise just wait, it'll be on one of the first pieces of correspondence you get.

Again - while I recommend getting it in early, if you haven't received AOR yet, it's not all urgent.

I got my AOR on 29th July. But it has just application number. I don't see any UCI number?

Temporary is the one that starts with CAN.

It's the case before your PR application passes a completeness check stage. You will often have it even if you applied before and do have a UCI.
This is true. I see it on IRCC portal in my profile. But when I put it on Application tracker with other details I get error "Incorrect or invalid information. Review and make sure it matches the information submitted on the Use of a Representative [IMM 5476] form or the Authority to Release Personal Information to a Designated Individual [IMM 5475] form. If you can’t create an account, it may be because your client’s application is not in our system yet."

Just. Wait.
