Hello. I am in the middle of gathering my documents together to renew my PR for next month in July.
As seen in my bio below when I originally applied for PR it was done with spousal sponsorship. It was approved and I did my soft landing in March 2020. Sadly this was not the happy ending or the brand new beginning I thought it would be. My ex became very abusive and I found out he was a serial cheater and cheating on me. This has been a very cruel and hurtful few years. We separated in November 2020 and officially became divorced in May 2023. He never sponsored anything for me. I ended up moving to Canada with the help of my dad and grandfather in May 2023. They wanted to make sure I got away from him and to have an adventure and live my life. This was just in the nick of time as my PR expires at the end of July 2025.
Unfortunately, I was not able to satisfy the three years needed for Citizenship but I can do that next year.
I have met the requirements for living here in Canada. I have been here over two years since my official landing.
My two questions relate to now being divorced as I was originally approved through the spousal sponsorship.
When reapplying for PR through the portal, do I mark Divorced for Current Marital Status even though I am legally Single? And do I need to upload the Divorce Certificate?
Edit* When I filed my CRA for 2024 the accountant filed me as Single.
Thank you so much.
